German club contact Barcelona for 23-year-old La Masia ace, player to be part of pre-season
Alex Collado had a difficult 2021/22 campaign as he had to sit out the entirety of the first half of the season following collapsed loan moves to Club Brugge and Sheffield United.
The La Masia graduate left Barça for Granada during the January window and enjoyed a regular run of games, featuring 17 times in which he even chipped in with a couple of goals and an assist.
Now set to return to Barcelona, Collado finds himself staring at an uncertain future, given the competition for places already at Camp Nou.
A versatile operator who can play in midfield and on the flanks, Collado had been tipped for a bright future at Barcelona after impressing heavily with the B team in 2020/21. But Ronald Koeman did not give him an opportunity to make an impression.
However, that could be set to change imminently as Mundo Deportivo reports that current manager Xavi Hernandez plans to keep Collado as part of the team for the pre-season.
The 42-year-old legend has already communicated the same to the player and the club’s technical staff. However, despite Collado being likely to spend the pre-season with Barça, there is no shortage of suitors for the 23-year-old heading into the summer.
As per the report, German club Eintracht Frankfurt are interested in signing Collado and have made contact with Barcelona to explore the possibility of a transfer.
The Bundesliga outfit, who won the UEFA Europa League last season, beating Barça along the way in the quarter-finals, are keen on adding Collado to their ranks. They have asked for information about the midfielder, although the Germans remain sceptical over their chances of signing him.
It is because Collado is more than likely to stay at Camp Nou this season unless a huge offer arrives for him before the start of the season. Apart from Frankfurt, other clubs in Germany and Italy are also keen. But the Catalans will only consider ‘high’ offers for the academy graduate.
If they do not arrive, Xavi & co. are happy to accommodate Collado as a squad player for the upcoming campaign.
